The Oregon Humane Society Technical Animal Rescue team in the News
The Oregon Humane Society’s Technical Animal Rescue team, informally known as OHSTAR, was recently featured on KOIN News. The video clip is below.
PetFriendlyPDX is proud to be a member of the OHSTAR team. An organization that has been mostly under the radar – it seems not many people are unfamiliar with who we are and what we do. We have been known to rescue dogs stuck on cliffs, cats stranded in trees (many!), animals injured on Mt. Hood, assist with disaster relief (Hurricane Katrina) and much, much more. Here is a link to their official website: OHSTAR. As a team, we train across a variety of disciplines – including high angle climbing techniques; animal first aid; water rescue; tree climbing and disaster response among others.
It is an honor to be a member of a team that includes such diverse, skilled and passionate individuals. All participation is 100% volunteer and we each invest in our own personal rescue gear. The Oregon Humane Society supports us by purchasing additional team gear that is required on larger or technical rescues.
Below are some photos that PetFriendlyPDX took personally while training or on missions. They illustrate some of the diversity of our activities!
